We had a “Spanish fiesta” themed event and the dancers helped to make it more authentic with the style of dances and costumes chosen. Not only were the dancers great, but our associates had a chance to get photos with them, which they loved! The dancers obviously love what they do and it really showed! Very professional and very happy with the outcome.

"Thank you so much for helping organise such a memorable day. We had a really fun time at the Hen's Party dance class on Saturday. I think we all felt rather uncoordinated but everyone was in such a good mood the whole way through. Lots of girls, including the bride to be, were busting out moves in clubs in the evening!
Garrett was great! He was really engaging and did a fantastic job at making us all feel comfortable. The dance he taught was good fun but without being completely unachieveable for a group who aren't used to choreographed dancing.
I'd definitely recommend Subsdance to anyone looking for a fun group activity and hope I get the chance to come for another special event one day."

"Last night, I did my first Subsdance class - Kirstie's Dancehall workshop. Why on earth hadn't I got along sooner? I loved it!
I'm relatively new to dance, and am usually at least 10 years older than anyone else in classes. But in last night's class I never felt intimidated or that I didn't have 'the skillllz'... Even though there were women there who've obviously been dancing for years, everyone... was happy to pause and relearn, and let people take their time to get things right.
The class felt really inclusive...as a first timer, there were no obvious 'cliques', and everyone seemed to feel very comfortable. Kirstie's friendly and funny personality put the class at ease.
And I learnt stuff! Not only the steps, but the origin of moves and the culture behind the dance... I felt like we really took the time to understand the movements, and where they came from. I am now thinking I must spend time googling Nigerian dance, so inspired am I!
But the best thing? I loved how the emphasis wasn't on getting the choreography right...it was about grooving...about learning the moves and putting your own personal stamp on them. If I wasn't far too old to hit Monkeybar this weekend, I'd be there with bells on :)
Thanks Kirstie - can't wait til my next class!"

"Never in a million years would I have dreamed that I would try dancing, let alone find that it would change my life. 18 months ago I was a somewhat portly public servant working long hours and having a limited social life after moving to the ACT from interstate. Since first trying dance at Subsdance (and being terrified of sucking so bad) I have found an amazing passion for Brazilian culture and dance through learning and even performing zouk lambada and samba no pe (the one from rio where the girls wear feathers – dudes do different stuff from the girls), and other dance styles such as salsa, hip hop, Dominican bachata, ‘afro’, lambada and others.
At Subsdance everyone is welcome, any shape, any experience level and any fitness level. I have made so many friends and there are so many parties and dance events on the calendar you could dance every night of the week if you wanted to. Subsdance classes are small and offer focussed attention by the teachers, who are all incredibly passionate about their art and will adapt the class to suit the level of the students rather than sticking with a rigid curriculum (everyone starts somewhere, don’t be too scared to give it a go).
Subsdance teachers even encouraged me to learn from anyone who would teach me, including other dance schools without any concern of losing me as a student. This proved to me that they genuinely had my learning and development as their best interest rather than their own profits. I have since branched out to learn from other schools as well, but am currently in my seventh consecutive term learning and performing with my original dance home, Subsdance. I have so much more to learn but I am certainly enjoying the journey with Subsdance Dance Studio."

"Subsdance is a phenomenal dance school. Having danced throughout my life in different styles, a year ago I saw their ad in Canberra Weekly and thought let’s give it a go. I always had difficulty finding a dance school/teacher that didn’t look like they’re too hard to move and groove naturally. Coming from the Caribbean dancing is in my blood, we dance before we walk. What a pleasant surprise that first class was. I was dancing, having fun while trying to figure out if Kirstie was Cuban, Puerto Rican/ Brazilian. But no, just a real Aussie woman who loves to dance. Since then I take the dance hall and samba classes and the fun thing with Subsdance it, you get all the space and opportunity to explore. Between terms you can choose from a different range of workshops from Zumba, afro dance to samba and burlesque and it’s a lot of fun.
At Subsdance it doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are, how you look or anything, it’s just about enjoying yourself, having fun and Kirstie and Kate will always try to make everyone feel very comfortable. The energy of Kirstie and Kate combined…wowww they’re a powerhouse that spread their great energy make the classes so much fun. Classes aren’t a work out but just fun with a nice group.
Not all good dancers can be good teacher, but at Subsdance you have the amazing dancers that are awesome teachers. I think that’s because you feel and see the passion when they dance and teach. Dancing gives them joy and I can only say come on, give it a go and experience it for yourself."
